Go on the Deck, See the Moonlight Amid the Mountains

“The surface of the earth is soft and impressible by the feet of men; and so with the paths which the mind travels. How worn and dusty, then, must be the highways of the world, how deep the ruts of tradition and conformity! I did not wish to take a cabin passage, but rather to go before the mast and on the deck of the world, for there I could best see the moonlight amid the mountains.”

Henry David Thoreau, Walden

Nice, Julie. I can’t get enough of Thoreau. Wish I could have hung out with him in those mountains, maybe by Walden’s pond. Plus I love his take on civil disobedience. There aren’t enough of us who see its necessity.

Nor can I and really great to hear this. I know, I think he’d have been a great guy to hang with in the mountains. What do you like about his take on civil disobedience? I know little of what he said, so I’d love to hear more. That’s right though!
