My Overnight Hike to Mount Kosciuszko: A Journey of Self-Discovery

2025 will be the year I finally did my first overnight hike to Mount Kosciuszko. We hiked about 27kms all up across two days, staying overnight near Seaman’s Hut.

It was a profoundly beautiful experience… no doubt you’ll see from the photos below.

But, you know what’s crazy? I nearly didn’t go.

I felt awful leaving my family to explore, and yet I’d have been stupid if I didn’t.

One of the beautiful members of our fitness studio encouraged me to come along on her adventure to Kosciuszko. With absolutely no clue what it would be like, my heart skipped a beat when she said she’d like to hike the Main Range overnight.

Little did I know how accessible it would be.

To my surprise, hiking on the Main Range was not only better than expected, it was an experience I didn’t know I needed but my soul knew I did.

Although sleep was sparse, the stars lit up the sky after a serene sunset, and I felt a deeper peace and gratitude, despite a little sadness in myself, as I admired this place.

I wonder to myself… why do I get in my own way?

In the morning, the clear skies put on a cotton candy sunrise as we packed up our stuff for another leisurely hike back out to Charlotte’s Pass from Seaman’s Hut.

It wasn’t hard all up, but it was heavy and with an upset tummy I was excited for daily luxuries like a coffee at Jindabyne and a dip in the river to get rid of the sweat.

I’m grateful I finally put my anxieties aside to go to Kosciuszko and I had someone to push me past the unknowns: never nearly as bad as my minds make things out to be.

Even through challenges.

Hey there, top of Australia.

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees”

John Muir

Apart from enjoying the outdoors, one of the main goals of this hike was preparation – mental and physical – for Coastrek in April 2025!

I’ll be leading a team of 9 of our fitness studio members to do both a 20km and 30km hike to raise much-needed funds for Beyond Blue.

Having been through the depths of hell with anxiety and depression – and, clearly still experiencing waves of it through life – this is a cause that’s close to my heart and I’d love your help to raise $4,500AUD before event day!

Can you help us?
